The British Army goes Back to Digging -- Men and machines hard at word digging-in during the first stage of the exercise. Pinks, shovels and mechanical "diggers" formed a large part of the equipment for officers and men of the 43 Infantry Division taking part in an "atomic warfare" exercises on Salisbury Plain. During the exercise an "atomic explosion" will be simulated while the Division takes shelter in its newly dug trenches and dug-outs. September 14, 1955.
