Ernie Pyle On New Beat -- Ernie Pyle (left), war correspondent who recently left the battlefields of Europe to cover the Pacific theater of war, gets acquainted with two types of Devil dogs, "Somewhere in the Pacific". It was the first time Pyle, celebrated for his stories on enlisted men of the battlefields, met a marine War Dog. The dog is "Jeep", a scout and security patrol Doberman Pinscher. They met while "Jeep" was on a regular guard watch, near the command post of Major General Graves B. Erskine, Commanding General of the Third Marine Division. February 9, 1945.
