A guards sergeant held one end of a length of string outside Westminster Abbey yesterday. Another soldier held the other end. And that was the crowd problem over. The string represented the line of troops up to which cheering people will be allowed when the Queen leaves the Coronation coach on June 2. It was the second Sunday morning rehearsal of the Coronation procession. A State landau, with its blinds down, left Buckingham Palace at 8 o'clock and stopped at the entrance to Westminster Abbey at 8.33. Bowler-hatted officials from the Ministry of Works paced solemnly with the police beside the landau, which was drawn by Windsor greys. Two units of the Household Cavalry in Khaki trotted in front, their horses lively in the sharp wind. December 15, 1952. (Photo by Daily Mirror).
