India's Millions Starve - The Government of India is planning a three-point emergency food program in an effort to stem the deaths from starvation of the thousands of Indians. Over 130,000 in Calcutta alone are near death and an unofficial report stated that 9,000 starved to death in the Bengal Province the week ending October 16th. This photo just received from Calcutta gives a small idea of what starvation means - an elderly man wasting away from lack of food. October 19, 1943. (Photo by Frank Cancellare, The War Picture)
