The King Presents New Colours To Welsh Guards - Queen Mary and Princess Elizabeth, with the Earl and Countess of Athlone, watching the ceremony. The King, as Colonel-in-Chief of the ***** Guards, today (Wednesday) presented new colours to the 1st Battalion of the Regiment in the gardens of Buckingham Palace. The Guards were their peacetime uniform, but as there are not enough scarlet tunics to equip the entire battalion, only 200 officers and men took part in the ceremony, the remainder parading as spectators, wearing battle dress.
