Mrs. F. E. Smith, formerly Margaret Eleanor Furneaux, wife of Frederick Edwin Smith, popularly known as F.E. Smith, 1st Earl of Birkenhead, Conservative politician, lawyer and best friend of Winston Churchill. Her portrait featured in The Tatler at the time when F.E. was leaving his job as Chief Censor and going on active service at the Front. She was the daughter of the Rev. H. Furneaux, Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Oxford. Date: 1914
