A new method of attaching experimental research aircraft to mother ships is shown here at Bell Aircraft Corp.'s Niagara Falls plant. The B-29 mother ship is raised on hydraulic hoists and, in this instance, the Bell X-1A is moved under the B-29 to be attached to the fuselage of the four-engine plane. Previous Bell X-1 airplanes were attached from a pit beneath the mother airplane. April 10, 1953. (Photo by Bell Aircraft Corporation).
