Physical Medicine For Children -- Defeating Infantile Paralysis - Susan Smith, aged 2½, has almost entirely recovered from that dreaded diseases, anterior poliomyelitis, commonly known as infantile paralysis. She has been treated three times weekly since the age of sox months, and is now about to be discharged. All that remains is a very slight weakness of the left shoulder but that, too, is yielding to exercises. Physiotherapist Mrs. Burks, at the Physical Medicine Department of the Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street, has been conducting Susan's case to its happy ending. January 12, 1949.
