Queen Mary Brings Home American Soldiers -- The towering skyline of lower New York City is a welcome sight to 14,526 American fighting men returning from Europe. They crowd the decks of the British transport Queen Mary, as the former trans-Atlantic luxury liner moves up New York Bay June 20,1945. The largest con­tingent of servicemen ever to arrive in tie port on a single ship, most of them were destined for redeploy­ment to the Pacific.
