The Queen will soon begin a series of visits to an obscure studio in St. Johns Wood, a London suburb, to sit for a crippled artist... Painter Simon Elwes (above) was paralysed on he right side of his body by a heart attack nine ears ago, and can paint only with his left hand. He will ignore doctor's orders to "take things easy", to paint the Queen's portrait. She his attack, Elwes, a noted society portrait painter before the war, has had to change his style completely in order to confirm with the limitations of left handed painting. February 10, 1954.
